The Nigerian Nostalgia Project (NNP) is an online digital archive of collected photographs, including vernacular images, video, sound bytes, press clippings, publicity stills, and various ephemera depicting scenes and people in Nigeria between 1960 and 1980. The project has since expanded to include any photographic work prior to 1980. The objective of the NNP is to reconnect the Nigerian psyche to pre-existent, indigenous, and proper thought, giving base to national pride and a foundation for a sustainable future. NNP provides a view into Nigeria’s cultural history and situates the practice of photography as an integral part to understanding the rich social, economic, and political issues that make Nigeria dynamic and unique. NNP is based on Facebook with over 14,000 members, where users upload their personal archives for collective viewing and user participation. For LagosPhoto, NNP is converted into an interactive installation, marking the first time that NNP has gone outside of the computer screen and engaged three-dimensional public space.
