BIO
I am a curator and writer currently based between New York and Lagos, Nigeria. For the past two years, I have served as a curator at the African Artists’ Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes contemporary African art, as well as a co-curator for LagosPhoto, an annual international arts festival of photography in Lagos.
I worked to develop new initiatives at the African Artists’ Foundation, including Art Base Africa, an online database and journal for contemporary African art, and YECA (Youth Empowerment Through Contemporary Art), which provides visual arts classes for youth in public secondary schools in Lagos.
I have written texts on contemporary art for publications including Art South Africa, Omenka Magazine, DIS Magazine, Geurnica, Interventions Journal, and ThisDay Nigeria.
I received my Master’s Degree in Modern Art: Critical and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University in New York, and my B.A. from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University. I received a Certificate in Professional Photography from the Speos Photography Institute in Paris, France in 2010. I have also completed internships in the curatorial departments of the Museum of Modern Art and the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York.
My research interests include contemporary art in the global sphere, with a focus on connecting non-western centers of cultural production.
